Chapter 14. HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT |

§ 14-134. Nepotism.
(a)
For the purpose of this section, relatives are defined as:
(1)
Mother (in-law).
(2)
Father (in-law).
(3)
Sister (in-law).
(4)
Brother (in-law).
(5)
Daughter (in-law).
(6)
Son (in-law).
(7)
Husband or wife.
(8)
Domestic partner.
(9)
Stepchildren.
(10)
Stepparents.
(11)
Grandchildren.
(12)
Grandparents.
(b)
City council will not appoint or vote for appointment of any relative to any city position.
(c)
No relative of a city council member, the city manager, assistant city manager, deputy city manager, human resources director, city attorney, city judge, city clerk, city treasurer, city auditor or a general manager will be appointed to a city position.
(d)
No employee who has appointing authority or authority to recommend appointments, may appoint or recommend appointment of a relative to any position over which they have direct or indirect authority.
(e)
No relative of a city employee will be appointed to or hired for a city position when it is reasonable to predict that the relative will be in the employee's chain of command.
(f)
All other nepotism determinations are made by general managers on a case by case basis.
