§ 2-2. Printing of referendum measures.

  • Whenever any ordinance or proposition is required by the city charter or state statute to be submitted to the voters of the city at any election the council shall:

    (1)

    Cause the ordinance or proposition to be printed, and it is the duty of the city clerk to enclose a printed copy thereof in an envelope with a sample ballot and mail the same to every registered voter at least five (5) days prior to the election.

    (2)

    Order the ordinance or proposition to be printed in the official newspaper of the city and published in like manner as ordinances adopted by the council are required to be published, provided the publication is completed at least five (5) days prior to the election. The council may order that such publication shall take the place of the printing and mailing of the ordinance or proposition and of the sample ballots as provided in paragraph (1).
