§ 17-2. Violations and penalty.

  • (a)

    Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, it is a civil traffic violation for any person to do any act forbidden or fail to perform any act required in this chapter.

    (b)

    Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, a violation of any provision of this chapter is subject to a civil sanction not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00).

    (c)

    Upon entry of judgment by the court in favor of the city relating to the commission of a civil traffic violation by any person, if the civil sanction is not paid or an installment payment is not made when due, the court may declare the entire civil sanction due and shall notify the state department of transportation which shall promptly suspend the operator's or chauffeur's license or driver's permit, or the privilege of a nonresident to drive a motor vehicle in this state, until such civil sanction is paid.
